Get Everyone Involved in Deep Cleaning The House

The Maids • May 01, 2013

There's tidying, and then there's cleaning. Most of the time, kids don't have much of a problem cleaning (though they certainly might tell you otherwise!), but they turn on full resistance when you ask for their help manually cleaning.

It's spring cleaning time, and everyone in the house can get involved—the trick is to make it more interesting and less stressful.

If you're really behind, maid services will be your best bet to get caught up, but you can also try these tips to get the house clean:

Pick Your Job. This great idea from  365 Days of Cleaning for school-aged kids: write individual tasks on sticky notes, stick them to a door, the wall, or the refrigerator, and let each member of the family pick a they want to do.

Take Scheduled Breaks. This will help both you and your other family members. Knowing that there's a break time coming makes cleaning easier and less overwhelming. Time the breaks beforehand and let everyone know what to expect.

The best method is to set a timer. You can make cleaning and rest time as long as you want, but we suggest either 1 hour of clean/30 minutes of rest, 40/15, or 30/10. Break it up in a way that works for you and your family best.

Split Up. What ends up badly in horror movies does wonders for cleaning! Rather than all staying in the same room on the same task, split up the tasks. This will help each person focus only on their task as well as getting more of the house cleaner, faster.

Eventually everyone's probably going to have to do a task they don't like, but being able to choose means it's more likely you'll get to do several you don't mind doing!
