Reducing Air Pollution Levels at Your Residence

The Maids • Sep 26, 2013

A home that looks great is a comforting place that is healthy, right? Well...not exactly. It can look really clean and comforting, but can still be unhealthy. The air in the area is contaminated with pollutants and allergens; maybe not life threatening, but still affective. It carries many contaminants and dust that can lead to sickness or allergies. You can't eliminate that, even with dedicated house cleaning. But you have the opportunity to control and reduce it.

When looking at a section in your home when the sun rays hit, what do you tend to see? Sure, household dust is normal, but what else in in there? That dust is invisible most of the time but you have to remember that you breathe that every day in your home. During seasons with closed windows, this air can have nowhere to go. The contaminants and allergens lead to more sickness and more allergic reactions all year, but even more when no ventilation extrudes them out of the house.

Air purifiers are a good route to go with any home and help reduce those contaminants in the air. Every single model has its own benefits and qualities like color, fan speed, filtration level, etc.

The higher priced models tend to perform better when it comes to filtration. Typically, you can find them in table models and floor models, but there are some plugin models too. However, they are not as effective.

Aside from that, during nice weather days you can use window fans to blow the contaminants outside. Unfortunately, this may be for a limited time. No matter, it can lower the level within your home for some time at least.

When it comes to air contaminants, your vacuum also plays a role. Cheaper vacuums tend to stir up the pollutants and irritants into the air, even though they may pick up dirt well. Some models use HEPA filtration, but a cheaper one may let a good amount of air escape before hitting the filter. Regardless, a HEPA vacuum can help but a better HEPA model will perform much better at cleaning the air.

The air in your home certainly does carry those irritants and pollutants. It always will. There is no way around that, but you can at least control it and make your home healthier.
