Is House Cleaning Causing Arguments?

The Maids • Jan 30, 2013

An online survey conducted by Just Eat recently discovered that splitting house cleaning chores ranked almost as high as money issues in reasons married couples argue—wow! Why all the fuss?

There are likely a couple of reasons, from stress over the house being clean to competition between the spouses, or even just different cleaning styles and expectations.

Just as interesting, “laziness” as it relates to house cleaning ranked behind only one other vice for reasons to avoid getting into a relationship with someone.

How to Prevent the Problem

Keep reading for a couple of great tips for dealing with being fair about cleaning:

· Discuss it at a time when you’re both calm. Trying to figure out who should be responsible for what when you’re both still angry is only going to lead to more stress and hurt feelings.

· Come up with a plan. Decide together how to break up the chores. Discuss your strengths and weaknesses—maybe you love to fold clothes, but your spouse prefers washing them. It’s okay to split up tasks to play to each others’ strengths.

· Stick to it! Avoid the temptation to do your spouse’s task. If they forget, gently remind them. And make sure you do your job before you worry about what they haven’t done yet!

· Hire a maid service. If it will save you discomfort, frustration, and arguments, invest in a service to help keep the house clean without undue stress on you or your relationship.

Who knew house cleaning was such an issue? Now it doesn’t have to be!
