Aromatherapy for Your Home

The most advanced and effective way to scent a room is by using an aromatic diffuser. A diffuser is a small electrical unit that pumps unheated scent into the room. Generally, unheated scent is more pure compared to a heated one. There exist a variety of diffusers in the market depending upon capacity and style of use. The cost of buying also varies per brand and the directions for use are always given once you buy it.

An aromatic diffuser is easy to use and its portability enhances effectiveness. Normally, a few drops of essential oil are placed in a small glass container and a compressor that is connected with a piece of tubing is turned on. The pump produces a stream of air mixed with a fine mist of particles dispersed by the glass unit. The effectiveness of disinfecting and energizing the atmosphere at home is enhanced by increasing the surface area of the scent molecules. Another gain to the diffuser is that the vapor of essential oil can be directed into the nose. It can also be used in a sick room to clear airborne bacteria that may spread diseases.

Nevertheless, thick oils such as vanilla, sandalwood, benzoin or vetiver should be used in the diffuser since they don’t evaporate easily. However, these oils can be diluted with other thinner oils such as eucalyptus, citruses, and rosemary or mixed with products that contain methanol. Do not let the diffuser stay with oil in it without turning it on because the oils will ultimately oxidize and thicken. Sometimes it is good to be vigilant on expressed citrus oils because they contain a bit of residue that may clog your diffuser. To unclog it, simply soak the glass unit in alcohol, and depending on the model, unplug the opening with a pin or toothpick. Finally rinse the unit and let it air dry completely.
