Two Great Tasks You Might Not Have Thought To Do

The Maids • May 29, 2013

The to-do lists you have laying around are likely incredibly long, and there's always something to add to the list! As spring cleaning comes around, you might find yourself adding sorting the closet and cleaning the pantry to your regular list.

When your list is long, a lot of things unfortunately slip through the cracks. The best way to avoid this is to get help where you can, like taking the laundry to a fluff and fold service and hiring a maid service.

The kinds of things that get lost on the list are those things you don't routinely do or think about. Here are a couple of those tasks that might have you asking, “When was the last time I did that?”

Mattress Care

Keeping a mattress feeling fresh and comfortable requires a little bit of care, but most homeowners rarely think about the condition of their mattress unless there's a problem with it. A little attention could make it much more comfortable!

Prevent those problems with these straightforward steps:

  • Flip the mattress. Flipping every 6 months keeps the wear on your mattress more even so your bed lasts much longer and stays more comfortable.
  • Sprinkle it with baking soda and let sit. Baking soda absorbs odor and moisture, often bringing germs and dirt with it. It needs to sit for an hour or two to draw moisture up through the mattress, though.
  • Vacuum the mattress. Using the upholstery attachment, vacuum the entire bed to get the baking soda, and accompanying germs out!

Light Fixtures

How often do you look up an dnotice how badly your light fixtures need cleaning? Probably not often enough to make it a priority, but light fixtures actually ttract a lot of dirt and small insects.

  • To clean globes and sconces: put them in the dishwasher or wash them by hand in the sink. It really is that easy!
  • To clean ceiling fans: use a pillow case slid over the fan blade and pull it back towards you, dropping the dust into the pillow case. Then just dump the pillow case and wash.
  • Th clean chandeliers: Your best bed is a microfiber cloth, some warm, slightly soapy water, and a little bit of time. Shine the crystals and rub the cloth over the metalwork. Do this with a towel on the floor to catch wayward dust.

While everyone's already in the midst of spring cleaning, these last few steps can make your house even cleaner!
